Kew Takes Delivery Of Fungal Hoard
Kew Gardens is about to become the largest repository of fungi on the planet. From this morning, the botanical behemoth is taking delivery of a new fungal cache, swelling their holdings to some 1.25 million specimens, and representing up to 70,000 species. (We think: the Telegraph seem a little muddled over their numbers.) The sporulation event comes courtesy of the Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux International. The merger should offer a better resource for scientists studying the many and varied roles fungi play in plant and animal health. We’d like to suggest that this mycological motherlode also offers a tempting culinary collaboration with the ‘world’s biggest dairy‘, planned for the London area. Mushroom soufflé, anyone? Broken Chain – La Diablesse leads an old drug addict to his death
Broken Chain is video art collaboration with writer Mark Norfolk for the City Speaks project commissioned by Film London/British Broadcasting Corporation. The film uses the Caribbean myth of La Diablesse the temptress as a metaphor for the craving the drug addict has for crack. In this piece the drug addict cannot give up his addiction and it leads to him stealing to feed his habit, even thought he has just come out of jail. This leads ultimately to his death.
