Larger Than Life

This huge, spangly shoe certainly grabs your attention, it is advertising the musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert. While it is popular and no doubt entertaining, it’s one of those shows lower on my list to visit, given there is so much on the London stage at the moment.
What exactly means: “to larger than life”?
I think we all have used this sentence before. What kind of person would you call : larger than life?

To me it is a person who is vibrant and when he/she enters a room/company you are very much aware of his/her presence. A likeable person, could be noisy or jolly but not a loud mouth. If meeting someone who Is Larger Than Life (haven’t heard it referred to as To Larger than Life) they are likely to leave their mark on you and you won’t forget them in a hurry.
