The Open Road London (1927)

London is the last stop in an epic trip across Britain filmed in remarkable early colour.

London was the final stop in a marathon journey around Britain filmed as a series of cinema travelogues. Pioneering filmmaker Claude Friese-Greene brought these picture-postcard scenes to life with a specially-devised colour film process.

    So we take in every …
    So we take in every refugee from around the globe? And just where on our little island are we going to put them? You’d be quite happy paying more tax to pay for the increase in demand on our services?

    Quite right. It …
    Quite right. It will continue until they get the message that they are not wanted here. British = white.

    According to the video description: “filmed in remarkable early colour”. Amazing!

    well i dont condone …
    well i dont condone that sort of behaviour. Thats for the skinhead morons that think the only way to deal with immigration issues is to go out paki bashing, they are as bad as the feeble liberals who want to open up the doors to everyone.

    well last time i …
    well last time i was in uganda amin wasnt in power, so not sure whats stopping them from going back. (admittedly the british took them there in the first place) And i know for a fact that the somalis really wont want to go back there, especially with all the kids they are having here. The fact the government has changed the immigration rules means that there was something wrong with it before.

    @trigga1uk if …
    @trigga1uk if things like that happened to you wouldn’t want to integrate either and you’d probably be thinking of going back where you came from if you could, but since a large proportion of uk immigrants are from broken african states like uganda racist white people is better than a dictatorship that hates you. pretty sweet life, eh?

    @trigga1uk what you …
    @trigga1uk what you need to consider is that such people are a) openly abused in the street by white people b) have bricks thrown through their windows c) even human faeces set on fire and posted through their letter boxes.

    is this footage …
    is this footage restored or was it shot in colour as this would of been rare and very expensive in 1927.

    when i was in syria …
    when i was in syria people saw me and assumed i was British, but why? Because i spoke english, dressed english, look english. In this multicultural mess we now live in i could of been from almost bloody anywhere.

    its gone a bit …
    its gone a bit further than the colour of your skin. People like trevor macdonold or Ian wright are as british as they get. But go to some areas where there is massive pakistan immigration with almost no intergration, they dress, talk, eat, interact like they are in pakistan but we are forced to believe they are as british as the queen. The term British has become incredibly confused.

    If you define …
    If you define british by the standards of 1927 the you right, but this is 2009 and british people aren’t defined by the colour of their skin.

    thats a pretty …
    thats a pretty strong thing to say as 40 years of immigration wouldnt really have much bearing on a few thousand years of British history and culture.

    nothing at all …
    nothing at all wrong with being foreign. Im guessing they didnt have such liberal minded immigration policies back then. Everyone knows that London of today is far less British then the London of then. I see it walking down the street everyday.

    Britain won’t be …
    Britain won’t be like it is now if immigrants weren’t allowed in.

    For instance, there won’t be half as much, wealth, infrastructure, art or culture.

    The people who should be are the countries who lost there great people to it.
